The lost generation is considered to be the people who reached adulthood during the great war and the 1920’s. The previous generation was considered forgotten mainly due to the deaths in the great war. The war rejected the former generation’s ideas of appropriate behavior, morality, and gender rules. Having witnessed so many deaths, the generation became disillusioned. This caused the lack in traditional values such as patriotism and courage. Other aspects of the lost generation refer to the ex-patriot writers who fled the United States to join more sophisticated literary cultures in other European cities such as Paris and London. This included famous authors such as Ezra Pound, T.S. Elliot, and Scott Fitzger, along with many other persuasive writers who influenced American culture. Our country could have been perceived as wallowing in despair because of the loss of cultural icons Americans looked up to. In years to come other American culture figures arose and new generations were created. There will always be a missing piece to the puzzle in correlation to American history.
